Destination: Mexico’s East Coast!
Let’s set off together to explore the Yucatan region. There, you’ll find ancient Mayan temples, natural cenotes, a rich and historical cuisine, and charming colonial towns. The best part? You can end your trip with a beach getaway and enjoy the stunning turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
Depending on the season, you can encounter a wide variety of animals, both on land and at sea. All it takes is a keen eye and a little curiosity to go explore the surroundings.

The Food
In my opinion, the best local cuisine can be found in street food stalls or small, authentic local restaurants—the kind that don’t look like much at first glance.
The best tacos I ever had were from a street vendor in Valladolid, between Calle 39 and Calle 46-48. I also have great memories of Comedor Chamula, a restaurant in Tulum where you can enjoy delicious dishes at affordable prices.
As for the local cuisine in general, it's quite diverse, although not necessarily the healthiest.
Mayan Cultural Sites
My favorite temple is the Calakmul archaeological site. We were among the last visitors allowed to climb the Mayan structures. I loved that the site is still relatively unknown to the general public, making it peaceful and well preserved. Seeing wild animals roaming freely and climbing to the top of the structures to admire the vastness of the jungle is an unforgettable experience.
Currently, Calakmul is only accessible by car or with a guide, but the upcoming Mayan train will change that. It will certainly bring some advantages, but likely also quite a few drawbacks.
My Personal Favorite: The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve
The journey there is long and quite bumpy—you get shaken all over! But once you arrive, it's absolutely worth it.
After the rough ride, hop on a small boat and begin exploring this stunning nature reserve. You can spot all kinds of birds, crocodiles, dolphins, sea turtles, and rays. If the weather is favorable, you can even go snorkeling near the coral reef. Unfortunately for me, the weather wasn’t great that day. Still, we were lucky enough to glimpse the shadows of rays under the water, and the turtles surfacing for air.
I recommend taking an organized tour with a guide to learn all about the species and the reserve.
