Our expert advice for planning your trip

The best time to visit Ecuador is usually from June to September, when the weather is drier and sunnier.

Visit the Galápagos to see unique wildlife. Explore Quito for its colonial architecture. Hike in the Andes for spectacular scenery. Discover the Amazon rainforest for its incredible biodiversity. Relax on the beaches of the Pacific coast.

    • Transportation
The country offers a well-developed bus network connecting major cities and villages. Taxis and ride-sharing apps are also readily available in urban areas. Renting a car is an option, but be prepared for sometimes chaotic road conditions outside major cities.
    • Language
The official language is Spanish. In areas with indigenous communities, local languages are also spoken. Learning basic Spanish phrases can greatly ease communication.
    • Alcohol regulations
Alcohol is primarily available in bars, restaurants, and licensed liquor stores. Sales may be restricted to certain hours and days of the week.
    • Card Payment
Card payments are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, although it is advisable to have cash for use in rural areas and small vendors.

    • Weather-resistant outdoor clothing, rain cover for backpack
    • Hiking shoes and backpack with daily essentials
    • Insect repellent and sun protection
    • Power bank and electrical adapter (outlets in Ecuador are type A and B, 120 V, 60 Hz)
    • Credit card and local currency (US dollar is used)
    • First aid kit and personal medication
    • Photocopies of important documents (passport, travel insurance)
